Brand Imagery
- The City of Eagan logo consists of two main elements: the tree icon and the EAGAN logotype. There are two primary versions of the Eagan logo: vertical (figure 1) or horizontal (figure 2). Unlike the previous logo, there is not a singular preferred version. Choose the vertical or horizontal based on the version that best fits your available space and needs. There are also three secondary versions of the logo (page 10) and different color options (page 13) that can be used in certain circumstances. Each of these elements has been custom-designed and should never be recreated. To maintain consistency, only original digital files of the logo provided from the Communications department should be used.
- The vertical logo can also be used with the subhead “established 1860” (figure 3). Use this version in situations when we want to convey the history and longevity of the community. This logo is only available in the vertical orientation and should not be used for general purposes.
- USE “ESTABLISHED 1860” FOR: • Welcome to Eagan signs • Other major road signs • Historical/Historical Society purposes
- DO NOT USE “ESTABLISHED 1860” FOR: • General purposes • Clothing • Legal forms and documents

- Clear space increases to include the department name. See below for specifications.
Brand Architecture
- One of the most exciting components of the new Eagan brand is the unified family of logos for Eagan’s premier facilities, programs, and services.
- The same usage policies for the city logo apply to all subbrands. The primary colors and fonts are also the same, with each subbrand having a unique secondary color specifically designated for its use.
- These logos may never be redrawn, re-proportioned, or modified in any way.
- The logotype must always be in the same proportion to the icon, and the logotype must not be used alone.
- A computer-generated logo mark or an artist’s rendering of the logo is not acceptable.
- See page 15 for examples of incorrect logo usage.
Subbrand Guidelines
- The same usage policies for the city logo apply to all subbrands. The primary colors and fonts are also the same, with each subbrand having a unique secondary color specifically designated for its use.
- These logos may never be redrawn, re-proportioned, or modified in any way.
- The logotype must always be in the same proportion to the icon, and the logotype must not be used alone.
- A computer-generated logo mark or an artist’s rendering of the logo is not acceptable.
- See page 15 for examples of incorrect logo usage.
Email Signature Guidelines
- Standardized email signatures have been set-up by the Communications and IT departments. All City staff, except Police and Fire, now use one uniform email signature format (figure 1). Police (figure 4) and Fire (figure 3) each have their own standardized signature formats as well.
- These are the only approved versions-no other logos or subbrands are approved to be used in staff email signatures. Background colors and patterns should also not be used in email signatures or formatting.
- The content for your email signature pulls automatically from Active Directory (the citywide directory IT uses for authenticating your user account to the domain).
- If there is an issue with your Active Directory information (first name, last name, title, address of primary work location, direct phone number), submit an IT workorder to get the information corrected.
- You may make minor changes to your email signature. To make modifications to the email signature, open up Microsoft Outlook and go to is File, Options, Mail, Signatures. The acceptable changes are as follows:
- • Change to your preferred name (i.e. Dan or Danny instead of Daniel)
- • Add or modify your telephone number (i.e. you’d rather have your department number listed instead of your direct phone number)
- • Add your mobile number (please do so on the same line as your main number; see figure 2)
- • Add industry certifications
- • Add a friendly close (i.e. Thanks or Sincerely; just insert before the logo)
- • Turn the signature off for replies or forwards
Vehicle Branding
- All City-owned vehicles must contain the Eagan logo in at least one fixed location visible from the rear or the side. This applies to Police vehicles as well (with the exception of unmarked squads).
- In order to achieve brand consistency and execution efficiency, the following guidelines have been set for City vehicle decals (except Police and Fire): • For large trucks: 16" full color seal • For smaller trucks and cars: 14" full color seal
- The mechanic shop will have two sizes of the seal logo decal in inventory. The seal will be used on all City-owned vehicles (non-public safety).
- • For small equipment: 5" high horizontal logo
- These decal versions should work for most equipment, regardless of vehicle color or size, and are in stock in the shop.
- For vehicles, the logo decal should be placed on the door of the vehicle. For small equipment, the logo can be placed wherever room allows.
- If for any reason there is a vehicle that cannot conform to these guidelines, an appropriate solution will need to be worked out between the Chief Mechanic and the Communications Director.
- Smaller equipment (such as this loader) will have the horizontal Eagan logo.
- The seal decals work well on any color vehicle, which provides consistency, efficiency, and cost-savings.
- All City-owned vehicles must contain the Eagan logo in at least one fixed location visible from the rear or the side. This applies to Fire vehicles as well.
- The placement of the City logo on fire vehicles is a joint decision between the Fire Chief and the Communications Director.
- The approved execution for fire vehicles is the fire seal in black (figure 1) with the following stipulations: • The logo must be large enough so that it’s clearly legible from 10 feet away. • There should be at least 2 inches of padding around the logo. • Do not add any effects to the logo including: drop shadows, embossing, reflection and outlines.
- Figure 2 shows a possible logo placement where it is large enough and clear enough to be legible to a person walking by.
Signage Guidelines
- Monument signs at entrances to City facilities should be among our strongest brand pieces with the least variation. They establish a strong sense of place in a visual representation.
- As with all other brand mark uses, respect for a proper buffer zone surrounding the logo is imperative.
- The facility name, addressing and any other text should be in Gotham font when feasible (or Arial font if Gotham is not available) and should be treated under the same spacing guidelines as a department name when auxiliary to the logo.
- Establishing a visually clean City brand as one enters Eagan creates a strong introduction to the community. For many, it is their first introduction to our brand. These road markers are a physical sign of the Eagan Forward initiative to create a more welcoming community.
- The City of Eagan welcome sign carries the white vertical logo with the Eagan Green brand color as the background (figure 1).
- The word “welcome” is placed above on a curve to best utilize the available area. The clear space needed around the brand mark is still preserved.
- The secondary version “established in 1860” is utilized in this configuration to clearly convey community history.
- This sign size is regulated by the State of Minnesota, so no variation is allowed.
- The Adopt-A-Street signs feature a similar layout to the Welcome to Eagan signs, with the white vertical logo with the words “adopt-a-street” above on a curve to best utilize the available space (figure 1). The clear space needed around the brand mark is still preserved.
- The Communications team has the vector files for the design layout that any sign vendor can apply to the approved blue color background.
- ADOPT A STREET BLUE CMYK: 100 62.45 6.52 .32 The color is defined by the State & cannot be changed.
- An oval insert carrying the two-color horizontal Eagan logo on a white background (figure 1) is the standard for City parks, fire stations and other non-enterprise facilities.
- The insert design was established to fit into the existing entrance signs previously adopted throughout the parks system. There are two sizes of oval inserts to meet the needs of the existing signs (figures 2 & 3)
- As full park entrance sign replacement is necessary. the font used for the prak name should be updated to the new brand font (Gotham).
Apparel Guidelines
- Many employees receive a uniform allowance with their position. In order to give adequate time to acquire apparel with the new logo, staff may wear items with the old logo until March 31, 2019. This allows both 2018 & 2019 allowances to be used to purchase new gear.
- As of April 1, 2019, only the new Eagan logo is to be worn in public. It is OK to wear old logo gear if it is non-visible to the public (in the shop or as a layer).
- Clothing items should bear the horizontal or vertical Eagan logo, based on the space available on the specific garment. Follow all general spacing guidelines for placement including the clear zone surrounding the logo and maintain the following minimum size:
- • Horizontal version: 4" wide
- • Vertical logo: 3" wide
- In most cases, the Eagan logo without a department name should be used. Fire, Police, and Parks & Recreation are the only departments approved for separate logos at this time (figure 3). See page X for the department logo policy.
- The two-color logo should be used whenever possible, however, when placing the Eagan logo on certain dark or green colors, the white version of the logo may be used instead.
- Most City apparel should include the Eagan logo only, without a department name. The logo can be placed in either a vertical or horizontal orientation based on space available on the specific garmet.
- For screenprinting and other one color needs, using a white logo on green (or other dark background) is preferred.
- For some City-purchased items, like safety vests (figure 1) and hard hats, only the City logo should be used. This also allows for efficiencies with purchasing.
- For screenprinting on safety vests (or other neon yellow items), use a version of the black logo.
- All employees are encouraged to purchase and wear Eagan logo apparel. The City has the logo set-up with three different apparel vendors you can chose from for your order. Staff should not wear any items featuring the old City of Eagan logo after April 1, 2019.
- Clothing items should bear the horizontal (figure 1) or vertical (figure 2) Eagan logo, based on the space available on the specific garment. Follow all general spacing guidelines for placement including the clear zone surrounding the logo and maintain the following minimum size:
- In most cases, the Eagan logo without a department name should be used. Fire, Police, and Parks & Recreation are the only departments approved for separate logos at this time (figure 3). See page 16 for the department logo policy.
- The two-color logo should be used whenever possible (figure 4), however, when placing the Eagan logo on certain dark or green colors, the white version of the logo may be used instead. If a single color printing is needed in a color other than white, please consult the Communications department for guidance.
Business System Guidelines
- Most employees will utilize the standard City of Eagan business system for their business cards and correspondence needs.
- The only exceptions to this guideline are the Fire and Police departments. These departments have approved variations on the standard business system (see subsequent pages for details).
- Do not attempt to recreate any of the business system artwork or make any edits or changes to the approved layouts.
- LETTERHEAD GUIDELINES This letterhead layout allows for more content on a single page than the previous format. An electronic template has also been set up in Microsoft Word.
- BUSINESS CARD VARIATIONS In limited circumstances, there may be the need for a slight variation to the standard business card layout. At this time, variations have been approved for: • 55+ Seniors (larger font size) • AccessEagan (content on two sides; no seal) • Building Inspections (scheduling phone number in place of URL)
- Is there a business reason you need variation?
- The front side of the Eagan Fire business card is consistent with the rest of the City, featuring the horizontal Eagan logo. However, the back of this card features the white Eagan Fire seal instead of the City of Eagan seal.
- For the letterhead, the vertical Eagan logo is replaced with the Fire seal and the footer contact information has been updated with the fire administration information.
- The envelope has the same horizontal Eagan logo on the front as the standard version with the Fire Administration mailing address instead of City Hall. The seal on the flap is the red Eagan Fire seal instead of the green City of Eagan seal.
- Eagan Police have an alternate layout for their business system.
- The front side of the Eagan Police business card features the police badge (which incorporates the Eagan tree icon). The back of the card lists crime victim information.
- The current layout for the Police letterhead (existing supplies) features the police badge incorporating the Eagan tree icon. The vertical layout for the contact information stands out as the only usage within the City that is not consistent with the new brand standard. However, Police Chief New anticipates that when the next order for letterhead is made that the layout will be updated to a custom version that reflects the necessary information below in a manner consistent with the City business system
- The envelope with the police badge (which incorporates the Eagan tree icon) is brand compliant, and the front of the business card needs to be addressed when it’s time to reorder, as the EAGAN word mark should not be separated from the tree, but there are easy fixes to the issue. Any other descriptions necessary to advise vendors what they should do or not do will be added at that time.
Lapel Pin Guidelines
- The City of Eagan lapel pins feature the seal (figure 1), denoting the City of Eagan in a more formal manner as these are often utilized at the more formal City occasions or in locations away from the City (i.e. pin swap) in which “Eagan” on its own may not be as descriptive.
Name Badge Guidelines
- Name badges are typically set on a white or light metallic background utilizing the two color logo in a vertical orientation (for staff) or a horizontal orientation (for City Council and Mayor).
